The Boston Exchange Program

SABEH hosts a select group of Chinese teachers and administrators, chosen from sites that have completed its Chinese teacher-training summer programs, for a two-week, intensive study tour in the Boston area called The Boston Exchange Program. Chinese teachers visit American schools and observe a wide variety of experienced teachers’ classes and engage in collegial discussion with American and Chinese teachers about ESL teaching methods. In addition, The Boston Exchange Program provides Chinese teachers the opportunity to learn about American culture and to practice their English through home stays. The program introduces teachers to the history of Boston and the surrounding area through tours of historic sites.  SABEH believes that The Boston Exchange Program completes the “Bridge” in Sino-American Bridge for Education and Health by bringing Chinese teachers to Boston so that we can continue to learn from one another.

SABEH had its first return exchange of Chinese educators in January 2012.  Four teachers and one administrator from Hangzhou visited Boston to observe teaching methods used in American schools and to experience American life and culture.  Each guest had a homestay with a different family and viewed classes in two public schools, a charter school, and two private schools. They had an exciting celebration of the Chinese New Year with members of SABEH. They also visited historic places of interest in Boston and Concord.  The week culminated in a best practices panel.
