The China ABC Book Project

One of our primary class’s culminating activities included having the Chinese teachers create an ABC book that would serve as both an assessment of the application of strategies and the three keys that were introduced in class, as well as an opportunity to share their Chinese cultures and traditions. The ABC book provided the opportunity for the Chinese teachers to apply their knowledge of ABC order, increase their writing motivation and confidence, recognize letter names, develop vocabulary, and make use of sentence structure with sentence starters learned in class. This book challenged the students’ creative artistic abilities with their colorful illustrations. The activity was a wonderful way to create an authentic USA/China connection and memory that I will be able to share with my third graders when I return to my American classroom in the fall.
